Several surfers in the Charleston area offer private surfing, windsurfing, and kitesurfing instruction, as well as group instruction.

Surf Lessons

CHARLESTON AREA 

Patti and Alfred Noe: Local standout surfers Patti and Alfred Noe offer personalized, in the water surfing instruction for beginner to intermediate surfers. During the 2005 SC Governor’s Cup, Alfred placed 2nd in Masters Longboard, was the Division Champ for Mens Longboard in 200, placed 3rd in Mens Longboard in the 2008 Governor's Cup, and went to the Midatlantic Regionals in 2008 and placed 6th in Mens Longboard.  Patti is the 2004 Southern South Carolina Eastern Surfing Association Champ, placing 3rd in Ladies Longboard.  Beginner instruction from Alfred and Patti includes water safety, wave reading, surf etiquette, standing up and getting pushed into waves to learn the feel of surfing. Intermediate instruction includes a surf session with Alfred or Patti as a mentor and includes evaluation of the student's pop-up technique, drop-in, foot placement, section transitions, and more. Folly Beach Shaka Surf School - We are certified Lifeguards and CPR trained and we have more that 25 years of Surfing experience around the world! Surf Camps (see below) run all summer from monday to friday in the mornings from 9-12. All equipment is included, special Softboards for learning, rashtops, suncreen. We also have a tent set up with a cooler, cold waters, and snacks!. Surfcampers ages go between 5 and 17 years old. Call in advance so we can accomodate you to the same age group. The cost is $300 for the whole week. Private lessons are available with appointment, the cost is $ 45 for one hour, $75 for two hours for one person. We also teach group lessons, so that means you can come with your family, friends, birthdays partys etc... Sol Surfers Surf Camp, LLC: Kai Dailling, owner of Sol Surfers, has over 25 years of surfing experience and is dedicated to helping students of all ages and abilities safely learn to surf and appreciate a sport that can become a healthy, relaxing love of a lifetime. In addition to the surf camp, Sol Surfers offers weekend clinics, private and semi private lessons, as well as birthday parties. Rates vary from $150 for a 3 hour weekend clinic, to $100 for 2 hours of one on one instruction. My Daddy Taught Me to Surf: This is a great children's book by two Charleston surfers that covers all the basics of surfing.  As Amazon describes it: "Ride along as one boy bonds with his father and learns about surfing in This fully illustrated, charming book teaches surfing basics and terminology, while passing the traditions of surf culture from one generation to the next. MYRTLE BEACH AREA 

Surf lessons and surf camps are available through Surf the Earth surf shop.

Island Inspired Surf School meets every Saturday morning at 7:30 AM at Island Inspired Surf Shop, 8500 HIGHWAY 544 West, Myrtle Beach, and arrive at Myrtle Beach State Park to begin surf lessons at 8:15.  They cover safety through classroom instruction, then assign surfboards to students.  They also offer Private Lessons for all levels of surfers, and free group lessons every Saturday morning for beginners and novice surfers. Folly Beach Shaka Surf School: Our Surf School was born in may 2004 as an idea of work in what we love using our worldwide experience from a full life dedicated to this sport and life style. Barrier Islands Surf Camp: Receive top notch surf instruction by former South Carolina State Champions Chris Costa and Wes Lybrand. Campers will receive training accomodating to their skill level, ranging from beginner to advanced. Water safety, surf etiquette, equipment selection, and greater understanding of ocean variables will be provided. Aside from technical instruction, campers will enjoy a week of FUN in the SUN as they improve their surf expertise. Lunch, drinks, shade, sunscreen, wax, and surfboards provided.
