SSCESA: The Eastern Surfing Association (ESA) is dedicated to the sport of amateur surfing, to the operation of a program of amateur competition for surfers of all ages and abilities, and to the establishment and preservation of free access to a clean shoreline and ocean environment. The SSCESA is the local chapter of the ESA. They provide local contest information, as well as work together to gain sponsorship for local ESA contests.
NSCESA: The NSCESA is the Grand Strand (Myrtle Beach/Surfside/Garden City/Pawley's Island) chapter of the ESA. They provide local contest information, as well as work together to gain sponsorship for Northern SC ESA contests.
Christian Surfers of Charleston: Christian Surfers Charleston is one of the newest chapters of Christian Surfers US. Though this chapter was formed in early 2006, Christian Surfers US has been spreading God's word to the surfing community since 1984. Already there are over 25 chapters around the United States and many individual members. As a part of Christian Surfers US, they share a similar mission, aims, core values, and dreams, but carry out our Lord's great commission locally.
SurfRider: The Surfrider Foundation was established in Southern California in 1984 as a grass-roots coastal watch dog group, with primary emphases on water quality and beach/surf access. Since then, the organization has grown tremendously, with over 65 chapters domestically as well as on the continents of Europe, Asia, Australia and South America. The Charleston Chapter was founded in 2000 and has remained focused on a diversity of issues in the Greater Charleston area since that time.
Carolina Coast Surf Club: The Carolina Coast Surf Club are in the early stages of reorganization, but plan to sponsor surfing contests, surfing trips to exotic locations such as Costa Rica and Mexico, and beach sweeps, as well as serve as an advocate for surfers’ rights. Their main goals are simple: to surf more, work less, have fun and pass this great activity on to future generations of surfers.
Folly Beach Wahines: The Folly Beach Wahines Surf Classic offers all ages novice and advanced women's surfing competition in shortboarding, longboarding, and bodyboarding. The contest is held annually in late Spring at the Washout on Folly Beach. Folly Beach Turltes: Folly Beach Turtles raises awareness for the safety and conservation of sea turtles nesting on Folly Beach and other SC barrier islands.
SCDNR: The South Carolina Department of Natural Resources (SCDNR) is the advocate for and steward of the state's natural resources.
South Carolina Aquarium: The theme of the South Carolina Aquarium is a journey from the mountains to the sea, across the varied landscape of the state. South Carolina is small, just 300 miles across and 40th in size of all the states, yet it is in the top 10 or 15 states in terms of its biodiversity (the range of animals and plants that live there). Not only is the aquarium a nice place to visit, but they are actively involved in many conservation projects ranging from recycling to marine coastal issues including sustainable seafood projects and helping stranded and injured marine wildlife.
Coastal Conservation League: Over the past thirteen years, the Coastal Conservation League has led successful initiatives to protect the threatened resources of the South Carolina coastal plain - its natural landscapes, abundant wildlife, clean water and traditional communities.
The Morris Island Coalition: The Morris Island Coalition is an informal group of national and local preservation, conservation and civic groups. The coalition is dedicated to preserving Morris Island and raising awareness of the urgent threats the island now faces. The coalition believes Morris Island is an historic resource of a national significance, and its preservation yields both local and national benefits.
